Digital Signature Certificate (DSC): Complete Management Guide
Digital Signature Certificates are mandatory for filing documents on MCA, GST portal, Income Tax portal, and many government portals. For CA firms managing DSCs for dozens of directors across multiple companies, tracking expiry dates and portal mappings is a major operational challenge.
Types of DSC
Class 3 Individual DSC is the most common type, used for MCA filings, ITR signing, and GST registration. Class 3 Organization DSC is used for e-tendering and government procurement portals. DGFT DSC is specifically for import-export documentation. Each DSC is valid for 1-2 years and must be renewed before expiry.
DSC Providers in India
The major licensed Certifying Authorities include eMudhra, Sify, NSDL, Capricorn, and CDAC. Prices typically range from ₹800-2,000 for a 2-year Class 3 certificate. The token (USB device) is an additional cost of ₹300-500.
Portal Mapping
A single DSC token may be mapped to multiple portals — MCA for company filings, GST for registration and returns, Income Tax for ITR signing, and DGFT for IEC matters. Keeping track of which DSC is mapped to which portal for which director is where most firms struggle.
Physical Token Management
The physical USB token must be stored securely. Firms need to track where each token is located — in the office safe, at a staff member's desk, with the client, or in transit. Loss of a DSC token means re-issuance with new fees and re-mapping to all portals.
KaryiQ Practice DSC Module
KaryiQ Practice's DSC tracker manages the complete lifecycle — from issuance to expiry. It tracks the provider, portal mappings, token location, renewal dates, and auto-generates alerts 30 days before expiry. For firms managing 50+ DSC tokens, this module alone saves significant operational overhead.
